Within this manual you will find help on how to edit photo files with PEdit.

After pressing the button on the homepage (or on the top of this page) PEdit will start.

If you want to create a POSTER from a photo. Read also the POSTER creation manual.

Loading a photo

Follow the next steps to edit a photo

Save Photo Picture

  1. On the left press the "Open Picture..." button
  2. Select an Photo file with the extensio  ".jpg", ".png", of ".bmp". and click "Open".

Now the photo is loaded and can be edited.

Resize a photo

Take the following actions to edit the size of a photo.

  1. Select the first tab by clicking on "Resize".
  2. Set the right size of the photo within one or both textboxesBepaal. The first field contains the width of the photo in pixels. The second field contains the height of the photo in pixels.
  3. If "Keep Proportions" is selected the height will be sized in proportion while changing the width and the other way around. With this setting the proportions of the photo will be kept.

Rotate a photo

Follow the next steps to edit the orientation of a photo.

Rotate a photo

  1. Select the second tab by clicking on "Rotate / Flip".
  2. The first button will rotate the photo 90 degrees to the left.
  3. The second button will rotate the photo 90 degrees to the right.
  4. By clicking several times on the same button the photo will be rotated by steps of 90 degrees.

Flip (Mirror) a photo

Take the following steps to edit the mirroring of a photo.

  1. Select the second tab by clicking on "Rotate / Flip".
  2. By clicking on the third button the photo will be mirrored horizontaly. The photo will be upright but mirrored
  3. By clicking on the fourth button the photo will be mirrored verticaly. The photo will be upside down and mirrored.
  4. By clicking twice on the same button the photo will be as it was.

Crop a photo

Crop Photo

Crop makes it possible to remove borders from a photo by selecting the part of the photo that must be kept. Borders on the up, down, right and left side can be removed. Cropping can be dan in two ways. Filling in the right values in the boxes or to use the interactive crop tool.

Fill in the values

  1. Fill in the amount of pixels that must be removed.
  2. Fill in the left field the pixels that must be removed at the left side.
  3. Fill in the right field the pixels that must be removed at the right side.
  4. Fill in the top field the pixels that must be removed at the upper side.
  5. Fill in the bottom field the pixels that must be removed at the down side.
  6. Click on the button "Crop Now". Now the photo will be cropped and the borders will be removed.

Using the interactive crop tool

  1. Position the mouse on one of the black rectangles.
  2. Press the left mouse button and move the mouse to the right place.
  3. The layout of the rectangle will be changed now.
  4. If the rectangle has the right size and layout, end up pressing the mouse button.
  5. You can select the different black rectangles to get the best result.
  6. Click on the button "Crop Now". Now the photo will be cropped and the borders will be removed.

Changing Brightness and Contrast

  1. With the sliders Brightness and Contrast can be changed.
  2. Move the upper slider to the right to increase brightness.
  3. Move the upper slider to the left to decrease brightness.
  4. Move the lower slider to the right to increase contrast.
  5. Move the lower slider to the left to decrease contrast.

Using undo and redo functionality

When editing a photo things can go wrong.

Undo and Redo actions on a photo

With the Undo button actions can be undone that are done on the photo in an earlier stage. With the Redo button actions can be redone that are undone in earlier stage. The undo functionality is unlimited and ends on the moment the photo is the same as it was when it was loaded.

Save the Photo

After the photo edit actions the photo can be stored

Use the button "Save Picture..." to save the changes within the photo.

Saving a photo can be done to several different formats:

  1. JPEG / JPG - A format that uses compression. With this fileformat you can influence the size and quality of the picture. The higher the quality value, the bigger the size and the better the quality.
  2. PNG - This is a lossless format. Photo's saved to this format will be bigger in size. But the quality is not influenzed by the lossless compression used.
  3. PDF - An electronic document format that can be read by Adobe Acrobat Reader or Foxit Reader. Storing to this type of file, the page size can be given and size of the borders arround the picture. Also orientation (portrait or landscape) can be selected.

Resize method can be set to influenze the method that is used to resize the photo.

After pressing the OK button a filename can be given and the photo will be stored to disk.
